Tinto Hostel, Barichara

Tinto Hostel’s façade with a mural: painted sky and roof with a black cat, cacti, a red wooden window, the “Tinto Hostel” tile sign and the word “Barichara” in yellow letters on a turquoise band, beside a stone path and trees.
Tinto’s courtyard: white buildings with tiled roofs and wooden doors, a stone path with a strip of grass and a large shrub of pale blue flowers; green hills and blue sky behind.

A house to stay in a little longer.

A garden, a small pool, hammocks and cats in a whitewashed house about five minutes’ walk from the main square. Private rooms and beds in a shared dorm.

Chapter 2

You come for Barichara. You stay for Tinto.

Behind the red window of the mural there’s a stone courtyard, white walls and green everywhere.

  1. White walls and wooden doors.
  2. A stone path in no hurry at all.
  3. And a garden that gets into everything.

Chapter 3

The garden has its own rules

Not the house rules (those are further down, plain and clear). These are the ones the garden made up by itself.

  1. 1. The hammock can’t be booked — it’s shared.
  2. 2. If a cat chooses you, there’s nothing to be done.
  3. 3. The pool is small and cool — for midday.
  4. 4. You make your own tinto in the shared kitchen.
  5. 5. Nobody here is in a hurry.

Chapter 5

Days here keep a different rhythm

The sky lights up before the town does.

From the terrace, the rooftops slowly turn orange. Worth an early alarm at least once.

Real scenes posted by Tinto on Instagram, on different days. An illustrative day — not a programme or a schedule.

Chapter 6

Barichara at your feet

Founded in 1705 on Guane land, with yellow-stone streets and whitewashed rammed-earth houses, Barichara has been a National Monument since 1978. All of it is walkable from Tinto.

Independent activities: Tinto doesn’t sell or run them, but is happy to help with tips.

Chapter 7

Small keepsakes

What past guests say in public reviews. And what they also say: the shower water is cold (Tinto warns you) and the upstairs rooms are reached by stairs.

Scores checked on 29 October 2026. They change over time — see each platform.

The pace

The most repeated thing: calm, rooftop views and wanting to stay one more day.

“amazing view from the veranda for sunrise. All in all very chill and invites you to slow down”

The garden

Outdoor kitchen, hammocks, pool and shade: the garden turns up in almost every review.

“the kitchen is outdoors and well equipped, there are hammocks, there’s a pool. It’s just fantastic.”

The welcome

Many guests mention Javier — Javi — for his kindness and his tips for getting around Barichara.

“A perfect place, beautiful views and garden and very kind staff.”

The rest

Close to everything, yet on a quiet street — about five minutes’ walk from the main square.

“Las vistas y mi habitación. Hermoso lugar para descansar.”
