Historic walk
Camino Real to Guane
Walk down the stone-paved path from Barichara to Guane — a national heritage route with canyon views and a tiny village at the end.

Put it first thing and pair it with the Guane museum when you arrive.
Experiences · Barichara and around
Seven plans for walking, looking and learning in a stone-built town, with rough timings and how to get back. Tinto doesn’t sell or run any of them — we just recommend them.
The town
Barichara was founded in 1705 on the land of the Guane, an Indigenous people known for carving stone. Today its yellow-stone streets, churches and whitewashed rammed-earth houses make up a protected old town, and from its upper edge you look out over the Río Suárez canyon.

Fits any time, though mornings and late afternoon are cooler.
Local crafts
Stone carving, handmade fique paper and traditional trades — watch the work and take home something made here.

A good indoor plan for the hottest hours.
On the canyon edge
Barichara looks out over the Río Suárez canyon. Late in the day the sky turns red, orange or pink.

Save it for late afternoon — the natural close to the day.
Open-air museum
Twenty-two stone sculptures, a water channel and terraces facing the canyon, at the top of town.

Pair it with the Santa Bárbara chapel, or visit before heading down the Camino Real.
Adrenaline day
Around 40 minutes by road: rafting on the Fonce, caves, paragliding and a park draped in Spanish moss.

Give it a whole day and don’t pair it with the Camino Real.
Tiny village, ancient fossils
A tiny colonial village down in the canyon, with the Santa Lucía church and a museum of fossils and Guane artefacts.

Best right after the Camino Real, before heading back to Barichara.
At Tinto
That counts as a plan too. Three moments at the house to slot in between walks.
At Tinto · midday
The house pool is small, outdoors and has a shallow end — for cooling off when the Barichara sun is at its strongest.
At Tinto · afternoon
Hammocks hung in the shade of the garden — for reading, napping or doing nothing on no schedule.
At Tinto · evening
Cook your own meal in the shared kitchen, which guests describe as outdoors and well equipped. Breakfast isn’t included — this is where you make your own.
